Monday 29th July - Yanworth to Woodmancote

Day 5:
Voilà , we are on our own now.
Steve gave us a lift from Folly farm campsite to Yanworth
and left us with our big & heavy rucksack for the week.
Me & Ed are carrying the cloth for the 3 of us and
William carry the food.
Difficult tasks in the morning and easier in the afternoon.
Bailey carries his personal stuff.

It will take us a few kilometer to adjust Ed's rucksack.
He's suppose to spread the weight
between his shoulders and his hip with the belt.
But he is thin as a stick !!
We finally swap bag.

At our first break when Ed & I took our heavy rucksack off,
we felt light as a feather (Yes, I did !!).

Bailey is on charge of the GPS today.

Coming up to Chedworth Roman villa
which I already visited many years ago.

We didn't visit the Roman villa but
we used their cafeteria for a quick ice cream.

We soon were on our way up into the woods.

It was all up hill and it's hot today !
A pause is required.

My 3 companions for the route.

And your faithful guide, at your service.

Seated on the best bench with a beautiful view on the valley
on a sunny day this is
-- VOTED the best place for lunch !! --

Picturesque Chedworth village

And right at the bottom there is the Seven Tuns Inn Pub
with a spring bubbling out of the wall opposite.

On our up again !

So apparently there is a private Restored World War I Airfield
in view but we can't see it.
We had many times where my MW booklet point to us
a point of interest and we can't see it.
I think they prepared the walk in winter and
the vegetation wasn't so luxurious or
they are taller than me !!

RENCOMB village:
It's hot and they walked really well.
An ice cream and fresh drinks are well deserved
from the local grocery/post office
- often combined in those little village.
I also realize we have no phone connection here.

Italianate Rencomb Cort used as a boarding school

passed the French-chateau-style stable block
(That's how they called it !)

On our way out of the town.

Passed river Churn

When we joined the busy main road A435, we got confused and
thought we had to follow it.
I really don't like following main busy road with little lay by.
After re-checking and I realize we were suppose to go straight on
onto lane sign posted "Unsuitable for Long vehicles"
That sounds better !
OK it goes up hill but it is a minor road.

We are entering the beautiful village of Woodmancote.

This will be home for one night
at Stay at Demeter in a very comfortable self catering B&B
run by a welcoming Chris.

and his faithful Bandy (I hope I got his name right !?)
who became the boys' best friend for a night.

Even William played with him
(He's usually not so comfortable with dogs)

We walked 11,72 km that day.
It was quite hilly but some beautiful scenery.
