Day 2:
Being so close to home, we got a lift and went to sleep at home !
Friday morning 9:30 am, we were driven back to Epwell
and quickly found our way to the Macmillan way.
Look closely, both side of the gate is beautifully curved.
We then found Ditchedge lane which turned out a bit over grown and
we had to weave between the stingers and thorns.
Ditchedge Lane is a green road that here forms the boundary between
Oxfordshire and Warwickshire.
This trackway have been part of a prehistoric trade route,
but it is more likely to have Anglo Saxon origins.
Although there is now no ditch alongside it,
there may once have been one marking
the boundary between the two counties.
The views are amazing.
The weather is on our side today, a bit of heat but not too much.
Sunny enough to see quite far.
The lane is getting easier to walk.
And we already walk on a good paste.
We're passing Sibford Gower on our left.
We shall now follow that lane for some 4 km,
with pleasant glimpses to right & left,
of the spire of Winderton church,
the impressive tower of Braile’s church and
Braile’s hill, topped with its clump of trees.
Starting to go down into upper valley of River Stour.
No boys, you can't walk in the water, walk around.
We went straight up hill after that to find more views
of the beautiful Cotswold.
Still on the right path
At this corner we are supposed to go threw
the field filled with several horses and separated
in different sections
We are not so courageous in front of horses and castles.
This time we will pass a couple of field,
climbed a fence and we were back on track.
Arriving in Ascott was another challenge.
We were whipped once again by stingers and thorns.
Checking the damage !
Some of our path are well hidden
We decide to have our break lunch here
On the road again via Whichford.
View on the way out of the village
Threw the beautiful woods of Whichford
We have walked here before.
We took a family photo in this same spot.
We found our way down into Long Compton village.
We ran out of water and we asked to fill up our bottle in the local garage.
I then treated the boys with an ice cream.
We leave the village of LC and enjoy the beautiful views behind us.
It was quite steep on the last meter,
a rest is requested.
We walk at the top of the hills and enjoy good views around us.
View over Little Compton.
Again we follow a path which we think is not well maintain.
We will follow it for a while.
but this time we were on the wrong side of the path
We should have been on the right of this edge !!
It looks easier access, no !!??
This lovely path will take us almost to Crosshands Campsite
where our Peggy Hut was waiting for us.
It will be Home for the night.
We are also next door to the Greedy Goose PUB
where will have our dinner tonight.
On our second day we walked 19.2 km.
Well done boys !
